C2D supports the Quebec Federation of School Principals (FQDE) in the design and implementation of a study aiming to produce an inventory of leadership and management practices observed at the schools level. The study will compare the autonomy granted to the school principals, their leadership with respect to achievement and the global governance that emerges accordingly.
Members of the FQDE expressed the need to draw a portrait of the situation to better understand the issues and challenges that they are facing, in order to define what an assumed leadership entails and how it can contribute to governance at a local level. To make this viable, a movement of "decentering" of the thought process and evaluation are also required, in light of the places and actors involved in decision making and in the design of a school project.
Governance refers to setting up new types of governance or regulating in a more flexible and ethical environment based on an open and informed partnership between different actors and stakeholders. This study will allow not only the recording of leaders’ practices that have proven to be successful for schools, but also the definition of a governance model by and for schools principals.
